TEDxPatras 2018

Modern technology has become modern magic. The kind of magic that you can get trapped in, a filter that embellishes your image. The kind of magic that creates a Dorian Gray picture, an infinite mirror where you can forever enjoy your reflection. But what if it also proves to be similar to the mirrors the conquerors once made the natives fear, only to eventually take over their country? What if the price for all the self-affirmation you get through the Facebook “likes” ends up to be your own soul? Would you still consider the bargain a profitable one? In a world that constantly seeks for new ways to serve our love for convenience, urging us to approach things superficially, Nikos Floros raises his voice, challenging the TEDxPatras 2018 audience to face some really challenging questions. How free are we really, if unable to dig deeper and think critically before making decisions? “The purpose of art is to free people, not to enchain them” states the sculptor and artist, inviting us to meet him on the TEDxPatras stage and explore the unsettling truth. The kind of truth only Art can unravel for us, hopefully raising concern enough to set the wheels of Progress in motion.
